![]() You advance Str all the way and end up with the same base damage, an adequate AC, and some good debuff abilities that make it easier to land save or die/suck spells and easier for your allies to land their attacks. Power Attack + arcane accuracy, wand wielder, or black blade archetype Weapon Proficiency and focus: bastard sword (best damage on non-critical hits), Katana (best crit range), or Falcata (best avarage damage), or skip out on Kensai and just use a longsword (superior damage on non-critical hits) or scimitar (best average damage and crit range) feats: Enforcer, and Rime Spell If you advance Dex all the way, you would end up with very good base damage, very good AC, and all the normal magus spike damage things.Īlternately, you could go with a Frostbite+intimidate strength magus Slashing Grace arcana=arcane accuracy (to feed power attack) or spell blending for mage armor Weapon proficiency and focus: Aldori Dueling Sword (works with weapon finesse from lvl 1), Katana (best crit range), or Falcata (best average damage), and Weapon Finesse You could go elf with 20 dex, 20 Int for a starting AC of 20 and take weapon finesse at level 1 and fencing grace or dervish dance at level 3. Optimization-wise, dex based is then an obvious way to go. You have enough stats that your Int can replace a chain shirt. With those rolled stats, the world is your oyster. I picked Bladebound for story-telling aspects more than anything else. Pretty much most any other archetype that can be used alongside it will work. The basic Kensai package winds up being quite powerful offensively I find, and is great if you want a powerful melee character who can do a bit of spell casting for utility. I also experimented with using Arcane Touch at early levels to fluff out a double strike sword technique, basically saying I would draw a line on a target with the first slice and then follow up with a second immediate slash along the same line. Usually I liked to used Elemental Touch as it was a fun way to target weaknesses of the creatures I fought against (home brew game, many enemies were either immune or weak to particular elements). When I did toss out the occasional offensive spell, I often did plenty of damage too. Add in Power Attack and two-handed attacks and I really didn't need to worry about spell-striking all that often. I used a Katana for strength based crit-fishing build, using my AP pool to enhance my intelligent, mystic blade with Keen at level 5. My character was basically a warrior with a few mystic abilities which came into play, primarily buffing spells. ![]() With your rolls you could go with this build while avoiding the main problem it has, which is really low AC during the early levels. The last Magus I played was a Bladeboud Kensai with a Strength build that purposefully avoided the typical Shocking Grasp build. ![]()
